Mariana Rio
Mariana Rio (Porto, 1986) has been working as an independent illustrator for different media for over a decade, with a special focus on the illustrated album. Her titles have been published by Pato Lógico, Ediciones Mónimo, Sexto Piso Editorial and Eterogémeas, among others, in Portugal, Spain, Italy, Poland, Mexico, Peru, Taiwan and the USA.
She has a degree in Communication Design from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Porto. In recent years she has been a guest lecturer in Illustration and Picturebook, with forays into Drawing and Creative Writing.
Her illustration work has been recognised, namely by various times by the jurors of the Illustrators Exhibition Bologna Children's Book Fair, the AOI World Illustration Awards, Nami Concours, White Ravens, CJ Picture Book Awards, the National Illustration Prize in Portugal. She is nominated for the ALMA award 2024.Fair.
