José Manuel Saraiva is an illustrator, graphic designer, educator, researcher, curator and author of literature texts for children. He holds a PhD in Arts and Communication from FBAUP. He is coordinator of the Post-Graduation in Illustration and Digital Animation at ESAD, Matosinhos, where he has been teaching since the academic year 1998/1999. Since 1999, he has participated in dozens of national and international illustration exhibitions, with his illustrations regularly awarded, highlighting the selection for the Illustrators Show at the International Book Fair for Children and Youth in Bologna, Communication Arts and 3x3 magazines, Special Mention from 16th edition of the National Illustration Award (2012), or the Best of the Best of the Hiii Illustration International Competition in 2014, 2018 and 2021 (the latter with illustrations from the Fantasmas do Porto series). Since 1999 he has developed an intense editorial design activity for some of the most prestigious Portuguese publishers and other institutions.
